Crew Coordinator - Level 1

Job Description

WMTC is seeking a Crew Coordinator to oversee multiple crews who will perform Level 1 maintenance throughout the White Mountain National Forest and surrounding region. This position will be responsible for safely leading and motivating crew members while completing priority Level 1 maintenance. Projects vary each year and by location, but generally include brushing, clearing blowdown, and cleaning out drainages.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise and manage multiple crews of 4-5 members in the field
  • Delegate tasks to crew members to effectively complete projects
  • Facilitate “teachable moments” to crew members throughout the season
  • Coordinate project logistics with the WMTC Project Manager and Asst Project Manager
  • Compile project logs and crew member evaluations
  • Ensure a safe work environment for crew members and the public
  • Routinely prepare and maintain tools/equipment before and after projects
  • Serve as an exemplary leader and role model for crew members
  • Maintain a strong relationship and communication with project partners
  • Report to the Project Manager


Candidates should possess, at a minimum, the following:

  • Strong interest in trail maintenance and education
  • Experience working with and educating youth, volunteers and adults
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and experience managing groups
  • The ability to work responsibly and cooperatively as a member of a team
  • Commitment to protecting and improving the quality of the environment for human and natural communities
  • Experience in best practices for field safety and a general understanding of Leave No Trace principles
  • Capable of performing strenuous physical labor such as carrying more than 50 pounds and/or tools over rough, uneven terrain
  • Trail maintenance and construction skills preferred
  • Possess a clean, valid, state-issued driver’s license
  • Candidates must be 21 or older by June 28, 2021


Season Dates: TBD

The work schedule is 40 hours per week


Salary: $30,000 -  $35,000 depending on prior experience

Employment is March - November; with December, January and February off.

March and April would be 20 hours per week

May - November 40 hours per week

Salary is paid year-round, monthly
